At SkillsConnection, we’re a not-for-profit NDIS provider with nearly 50 years’ experience supporting people of all abilities to grow in confidence, achieve their goals, and live more independently across Colac and the surrounding region.
1979
SkillsConnection’s story began in 1979 as part of the Barwon Regional Consultative Council, working to represent and support the needs of the local community.
1981
In 1981, we became the Colac Community Development Association Inc. (CCDA) and started a new chapter that deepened our commitment to local support, and meeting the changing needs of the community.
1999
We gained Registered Training Organisation (RTO) status in 1999, creating more opportunities for people to learn, upskill, and achieve their goals.
Early 2000s
Building on our community foundations, we expanded into disability support services, evolving from an advisory role to providing practical, hands-on support within the community.
2007
In 2007, we became SkillsConnection, a name that reflects our enduring focus on helping people build skills, confidence, and meaningful connections.
The SkillsConnection’s ethos is built on a commitment to examining what we are doing and finding ways in which we can do better and best engage the community. Our focus is on supporting people and ensuring that those in our community who are most vulnerable have a service. When we move into a different area, the focus is on responding to need rather than growth for growth’s sake. We’re here to listen, learn, and ensure our services are shaped by the people who use them.
We’re guided by a culture of respect, integrity, and inclusivity. We empower both our staff and participants to grow, contribute, and reach their full potential. Our commitment to continuous improvement ensures we adapt to the changing needs of the community we serve.
Choice and control are at the centre of everything we do. We partner with participants, families, and support coordinators to create truly person-centred supports, tailored to individual goals, preferences, and daily routines. From the first conversation to ongoing support, you’re in control every step of the way.
With over 190 staff, SkillsConnection brings together a diverse team of experienced support professionals, many trained to Certificate IV level or working towards it. While formal qualifications aren’t always provided elsewhere, we actively support our people’s growth and career paths. This commitment to development means our team delivers high-quality, knowledgeable care every day.
At the heart of SkillsConnection’s success is Marita Brady, our CEO, whose journey with us began 25 years ago at a coordination level, building on 17 years of experience in the sector. From the beginning, Marita had a clear mission, and she’s far from finished. Her deep understanding of every part of the organisation gives her a unique insight into how we operate and where we can grow. She knows that it’s not just about the support we provide, but about the people behind it, and that everyone’s experience matters.
Marita is a hands-on, people-focused leader who builds trust through genuine connection with both staff and participants. With an open-door approach and a warm, grounded presence, she is fostering a culture where relationships come first. She understands that when people feel seen, heard, and supported, quality service follows naturally. Her strong belief in community and inclusion continues to shape the future of SkillsConnection.
We’re here to help. Whether you’re just getting started or need a more tailored plan, we’ll guide you through the options.
