Food-A-Roma delivers tasty and economical lunches or “heat & eat” evening meals Food-A-Roma to stock your fridge or freezer with healthy, time saving options. We deliver to your home or workplace with a menu that changes daily, and that the whole household will enjoy.

We make corporate and social club functions easy, and no matter what sort of event you’re hosting, we’ll have a catering solution that’s perfectly suited.

We cater for special events and occasions, that is on time and stress free. We can meet your every desire from delicious sliders, sandwiches and canapes to scrumptious desserts to satisfy any sweet tooth.

Food-A-Roma also offers our community preparation of menu-based lunches of choice for senior citizen groups and school canteen services.

Learning Model

Food-A-Roma’s supportive learning model reflects SkillsConnection’s commitment to design and implement innovative, and practical opportunities for our participants to enter or return to the workforce.

We work with a supportive and flexible learning model that enhances independent living skills by providing practical education in literacy and numeracy, and offering a real opportunity for people to improve their employability in either open or supported employment.

As participants are trained in all aspects of hospitality this gives them the opportunity to undertake formal class work for accredited hospitality training courses which are nationally recognised.

Food-A-Roma supports this training by providing opportunities for practical application of hospitality skills including:

• Menu planning
• Costing, budgeting and purchasing
• Food handling
• Food preparation
• Customer service
• Workplace Health & Safety
• Healthy living and diet

Underpinning these practical skills, Food-A-Roma also fosters the development of life skills in areas such as:

• Time management
• Communication  and teamwork
• Building friendships and professional relationships
• Independent living skills including planning, shopping and nutrition
• Budgeting and money handling skills

Food-A-Roma participants are supported and nurtured by experienced staff with qualifications in both the hospitality and disability fields.

History of Food-A-Roma

Since its inception in April 2006 as a small one day per week lunch order delivery service with only 15 customers, Food-A-Roma has expanded both the scope and range of its services and its customer base.

Initially the Food-A-Roma group partnered with a local restaurateur who provided mentoring and access to a commercial kitchen facility.

In 2011 Food-A-Roma entered into an agreement with Colac Football and Netball Club (The Colac Tigers) and moved its food preparation activities to the kitchens at the Central Reserve Football Ground.

Food-A-Roma is now located at 41-43 Donaldson Street and operates Mondays to Fridays. It prepares over a hundred meals a day, as well as catering for corporate functions and private parties.

As we grow so does our ability to provide meaningful mentoring opportunities for our participants. Whilst Food-A-Roma runs as a commercial business all the income generated from its activities are returned to the program, to further support participant inclusion, and serve our wonderful community.
